Fly ?
Warren Canyon, Inyo National Forest, Mono Basin, eastern Sierra Nevada, Mono County, California, USA
August 2, 2011
Size: ~ few mm
This super-cool fly was really abundant on the Corn Lily [Veratrum californicum] flowers... but only at dusk and into early evening... they were nowhere to be seen earlier in the day. Habitat was wet meadow amidst sub-alpine coniferous forest, ~ 9,200' elevation. I will post additional images from the same observation, but they're different individuals.
