Chronologically this is the first image in the series. The female beetle was chewing on a blossom of lupine (Lupinus perennis), a rare plant in our state. The antennae are fully extended.

A big black ant comes along pushes the female beetle's face up and off the blossom. Then the ant crawls all over the beetles. It even got into the sexual parts and for a moment I thought it had breached into the female's dorsal area somehow and was going to eat her. Then the ant crawled all over her face, and finally settled in on the blossom where the beetle had been chewing. I'd appreciate knowing who the characters in this little vignette are... thanks! In a few minutes the ant left and the beetles seemed unscathed.
