Podabrus piniphilus (Eschscholtz)
Correct: this is Podabrus piniphilus (Eschscholtz). I currently place this species in the genus Podabrus. It is true that Takahashi (2007) has elevated the genus Malthacus Kirby (previously considered a subgenus of Podabrus under the name of Dichelotarsus Motschulsky) to generic status, and it is expected that most of the species in Fender's (1949) Groups II-VIII of Podabrus (including P. piniphilus) will be transferred to Malthacus; however, these transfers, however, have not yet been undertaken. Thus to place piniphilus in Malthacus at this stage is to jump the taxonomic gun. :~>
