Unknown bugs found in our home
Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
December 27, 2011
Size: Approximately 5-6 mm
We found a bunch of these in our home recently. We are concerned that they might be ticks since we have pets. They seem to have 6 legs and antennae, so I don't think they are ticks, but we don't know for sure. We do go horseback riding in the woods a lot and have brought home a tick or two. We also did get a live Christmas tree this year...possibly a source.

I'll bet they came from the Christmas tree.
This is definitely an aphid. It looks like one of the so-called "giant aphids"--and perhaps one of the Giant Conifer Aphids in the genus Cinara:

It's nothing to be concerned about.

Welcome to BugGuide!

My guess would be just a harm
Do you have a garden nearby or was the christmas tree grown near one? My guess would be just a harmless aphid. Possibly a Bean/cowpea Aphid, the young don't grow wings until later on - but wait for an expert.

Not an expert . . .
but I can pretty much assure you that it sin't a tick :) BUT . Wait for the experts.
