Scarlet-Bodied Wasp Moth - Cosmosoma myrodora

Scarlet-Bodied Wasp Moth - Cosmosoma myrodora
Sarasota, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
January 1, 2012
Found just outside secondary growth forest (Live Oak hammock) near a dried up stream where armadillos abound. The area was mostly weeds and some trees (pine, oaks) and many palmettos. The wasp moth was nectaring on a plant I would like to send to plant I.D. I will link a photo.

Plant
The grooved, hairy stem and the flowerheads with a single series of equal-sized phyllaries fit perfectly with Erechtites hieraciifolia (good call by John Maxwell). Here is its link to the Atlas of Florida Vascular Plants (photos on "Fullscreen Slideshow").

Thanks, John and John.
Appreciated!

Moth
Maybe Scarlet Bodied Wasp Moth?

Sure looks like it...
Thanks!

date, etc
Would you edit this and put in a date? Other details'd be good too, such as habitat, plant that it was on or anything else that you might have. I forget these details at times, but they can be very useful to some people. Nice photo and thanks.

Absolutely
I would like to add the details. I'll also add a side view photo of the insect. (I thought that since the blade of grass blurred the center, that the photo would be frassed.)
