Collembola - Pseudobourletiella spinata - male

Collembola - Pseudobourletiella spinata - Male
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
January 1, 2012
Size: ~1.5mm
I'm fairly certain this is Pseudobourletiella spinata. Maybe immature or freshly molted due to the strange color of this specimen. Another interesting one for Frans :^)...and BG!

Pseudobourletiella spinata
Indeed a subadult male specimen. There is no sign of the secondary sexual characters dorsally on abd.6 (spiny structures). But the yellow front between the eyepatches indicate the specimen is a male.
Great catch, Scott!

Thanks...
for the confirmation and the info Frans. Some interesting color variations in this species.
