Sparasion…
This is a nice find. A preliminary check of the literature indicates at least four known US species. Described as having a transverse or subquadrate head with a prominent frontal ridge, 12-segmented antennae inserted just above the clypeus, a mesonotum with two distinct furrows, a large semicircular scutellum, and a long depressed abdomen. They are egg parasitoids of orthopterans.

A comparison image can be found here. A new genus can be created for this beast (under Scelioninae). Nice work, Ryan and thanks to Victor for the ID.

Great!
Thanks so much! Really cool looking critter.

Looks
to be a new one for the guide. Is Sparassion a North American species? I can't find any reference to it on the WWW. Do you have any more information?
