Cantharidae - Chauliognathus marginatus - male - female

Cantharidae - Chauliognathus marginatus - Male Female
Ames - Tullamore, Story County, Iowa, USA
June 8, 2010
I hate to admit this but I paid no attention to these, even though they did seem early. I assumed that all elongate, orange and black ones were C. pensylvanicus.
I do love learning something new but I hate showing my ignorance.

not to mention...
you extreme disrepect for privacy during their nuptials :-)

Except..
I was again 'assuming' it was a male and female rather than a couple of beetles having some sort of wrestle.
