Size: Forewing length 16mm
ID to genus provided by BOLD Systems via DNA. A "solid" species DNA match was made with species
Nephelodes minians at 98.32% with numerous specimens at BOLD. However,
Nephelodes minians is the only
Nephelodes species on record, thus far, within the BOLD data base. A review of the various
Nephelodes species at MPG leads me to think that
Nephelodes demaculata is a better match than
Nephelodes minians, or any of the other
Nephelodes species. The MPG range maps for these two specimens shows the distinctive range of each species.
Any comments concerning the correct species ID for this moth are appreciated - Thanks!
Species ID Update:
ID for this specimen has been updated by BOLD Systems to Nephelodes demaculata; confirming my earlier thinking concerning this specimen. The two species are "closely allied congeneric species" and can be compared via the Public Data Portal - BIN Page link below.
Please also see detailed descriptions of each species at Pacific Northwest Moths: N. demaculata and N. minians
