Day 87: the green stage - Siphanta acuta

Day 87: the green stage - Siphanta acuta
Alameda County, California, USA
January 12, 2012
Size: 2.7 mm bl
This is a different specimen from the one shown for Day 68, but it hatched from the same egg mass. I think it's the fourth instar. Its color is a more definite green. On Pittosporum.

Rates of development differ noticeably. The jar that contains this specimen has another one at the green stage and a third specimen that still looks white with black spots.

Temperatures for these nymphs haven't been natural since the nights (and some days) turned cold. I brought the containers inside for the winter. During most of the day, however, they're in an unheated room.
