removed, do you mean by other than natural causes?

 
I have no idea...
how the scales were removed. In natural circumstances the scales should remain present. They protect the specimen against dehydratation. Possibly the scales were rubbed off by accident? Anyway, this specimen will soon moult to produce as such a new scale cover. If not it will dehydrate.

 
I do not know either. This individual was very much alive
and active when I took the photo. It had not been taken as a specimen.
