As far as I know, those remarks are still accurate. I don't know if Timothy Tomon's paper was ever formally published though. It's been a while since I spoke with him.

However, Jeremy deWaard, et al, conducted a DNA analysis of loopers in British Columbia which corroborated Tim's conclusion of them being a single variable species. Of the two in BC, amicaria and alienaria, there was no definitive distinction in DNA barcodes, again suggesting a single variable species. Here is a table showing amicaria/alienaria as sharing overlapping barcodes. So I think we're in safe waters lumping the Probole species together here on BG.

One thing I found interesting as a side note, is on that same table, two of the Xanthotype species, sospeta and urticaria were shown as having identical DNA barcodes.
