D'Hanis Caterpillar - Eupackardia calleta

D'Hanis Caterpillar - Eupackardia calleta
D'Hanis, Medina County, Texas, USA
January 14, 2012
Size: 2 inches
Saw this big guy at my brothers house in D'Hanis, Texas. Beautiful!!! Trying to find out what it will turn in to.

not Hyalophora, but closely related
Looks fully grown - probably wandering around looking for a good place to make a cocoon. Hard to tell when the adult will emerge, but likely late February or early March; maybe will wait (?much) longer.

Moved from ID Request.

A giant silkmoth caterpillar
Maybe something in genus Hyalophora: http://bugguide.net/node/view/4624/bgimage
