Rhopalomyia californica gall with odd hole - Rhopalomyia californica

Rhopalomyia californica gall with odd hole - Rhopalomyia californica
Carpinteria Salt Marsh, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara County, California, USA
January 25, 2012
Size: 2.3 mm total length
This was inside the gall. I'm curious what people think it is. The darker portion on the right of the shot looks like it might be a Rhopalomyia californica pupa (or exuvia). But the whitish portion on the left seems like it might be a parasitoid pupa (or exuvia). I'm not sure what the abdominal portion of a normal R. californica pupa looks like, though, because all I've seen before is the front end of the exuviae sticking out of the gall.

Seems like a midge pupa to me
The abdominal portion does look a little funny, but I'm not seeing anything that suggests there's a second pupa there.
