Scoliid wasp, possibly Campsomeris tolteca male? - Dielis tolteca - male

Scoliid wasp, possibly Campsomeris tolteca male? - Dielis tolteca - Male
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
March 10, 2007
Size: 20-22 mm
We saw this scoliid male on Spanish Needles (Palafoxia aridus) along Henderson Canyon road in the low sandy desert. We think it may possibly be a Campsomeris tolteca male because there may be a yellow band across the thorax just above the wings. Hard to tell since this isn't a dorsal view. Any help with identification will be much appreciated. (I checked to see if this image was sent in before, but I can't find it on BugGuide.)

Right on! Campsomeris tolteca
Markings on scoliids can vary greatly, especially for males of Campsomeris tolteca and C. plumipes.

Campsomeris tolteca
Thanks so much, George Waldren. I'm delighted to have him identified. This group is so fascinating with the sexual dimorphism.
