Careful with the spines on this one
They can be painful. This is a moth in the genus Hemileuca. Ryan may be able to tell you which one.

 
Maybe...
"Hemileuca maia", possibly?

 
Definitely H. maia
The only species of Hemileuca found in Alabama.
