Eleodes
Eleodes maybe carbonarius? There is a key to the Eastern Colorado fauna in "The Genus, Eleodes of Eastern Colorado" by Alison Bernett. I don't think there are many species up in North Dakota that also do not occur south into Eastern Colorado so you can probably key it out.

Ran through key
and plops out nicely at E. carbonarius
