Antrodiaetus pacificus Adult Female - Antrodiaetus pacificus - female

Antrodiaetus pacificus Adult Female - Antrodiaetus pacificus - Female
Renton, King County, Washington, USA
August 27, 2011
I found this female in a burrow beneath a heavy toolbox, in my backyard. The burrow was located in soil rich with pine needles. I'd found her home in daylight and flooded the tunnel out for some time, noticing that many miniature copies of the adult form were crawling out! I'd been looking for a female for more than 2 years, so it was exciting to know it was inhabited. After some time, the female emerged and I collected both her and her spiderlings. She is now captive, fat and content in her new home.
