Small male spider - S.K.4 - Lepthyphantes - male

Small male spider - S.K.4 - Lepthyphantes - Male
White Fox, Torch River, Saskatchewan, Canada
February 9, 2012
Size: Approx. 2mm. Small
Last November I placed a plastic container with some twigs, dirt, ants and bugs under a Steatoda borealis cobweb in my garage.
Every now and then I add a bit of snow.
Last Wednesday this little guy showed up traveling around on the cobweb.
I was surprised to see it was still there the next day as every other type of spider seen near that web is dead on the floor.

Thank you John,
that's close enough for me.

..
The palp looks good, and I think I might get this to species one of these days. I need some more of the literature on this genus first.

Ventral image of Lepthyphantes tenuis, legs not banded, spines close, I keep guessing.

Active
Sheet web built, active when a bug drops in day or night.
I think its mature ID will be Neriene clathrata.

Captured
Replaced ventral image with dorsal. 2 mm. is accurate.

Looks like a subadult male. It might be interesting to raise this one to maturity and see what species it turns out to be.

Intermediate
Moulted 28 Feb. Darker with age. There aren't many ventral images of males to compare this with.

..
I might be able to identify your spider if I could see it under a microscope.

Here's an adult male Neriene clathrata for comparision:

One of these days.
Now that I've found a good source of food and learned how to build a compfortable terrarium, I'll stop calling him Herb and plan on sending him your way, one of these months. The sod he may have come out of is in a warm pail with growing grass and at least two little black females in it, one with an egg sac.
A near perfect visual match at -

..
Do you have any pictures of the female? Maybe you could send her along with this male? :)

Yes, but no
Pictures that are not enough for ID.

Females not related
Shorter legs, larger abdomen, etc
