Mayfly nymph ID requested - Ameletus

Mayfly nymph ID requested - Ameletus
Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada
August 7, 2008
Can anyone narrow down the ID on this cool aquatic nymph for me? That was a memorable afternoon, playing in a crystal clear mountain stream at Waterton Lakes. I found a small pocket of still water off to the side that was teeming with life. I don't know much about these aquatic creatures, but would love to learn! Wish I was there right now. :-)

Your mayfly nymph is of family Ameletidae and genus Ameletus, which is represented by (14) species reported from AB. Although I'm not sure which species, it's so distinctly patterned, that I may be able to identify it to species, at least once I find the time to do so. However for now, I'll place it in the guide at genus level. Incidentally, I would certainly second V's compliment, as you've captured a great photo of an exceptionally beautiful mayfly nymph.

Thanks so much!
