I think this may be Diachlorus ferrugatus, Yellow fly of the Dismal Swamp, but I'm not 100% sure. What do you think?

Not me htis time
I'm not holding it, my husband is. Besides, neither of us has ever been bitten by a fly while we were holding it. But you're right, these can be particularly vicious biters!
