Yellow fly - Diachlorus ferrugatus - female

Yellow fly - Diachlorus ferrugatus - Female
Dismal Swamp State Natural Area, Camden County, North Carolina, USA
July 3, 2006
I think this may be Diachlorus ferrugatus, Yellow fly of the Dismal Swamp, but I'm not 100% sure. What do you think?

Hmmmmmmmmm
Looks like a deer fly. And why are you holding it? They bite!

Not me htis time
I'm not holding it, my husband is. Besides, neither of us has ever been bitten by a fly while we were holding it. But you're right, these can be particularly vicious biters!

You are correct
You have a nice 'collection' of tabanid images. Moved.

Thanks
I have a few more biting flies to get confirmed IDs on -- we have quite the assortment here in northeast NC.
