Ampulex canaliculata - female

Ampulex canaliculata - Female
Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA
September 8, 2004
Size: ~11 mm
This is a strange dorsolateral view (I didn't have it pinned and this was the only way could get it to stay in the view I wanted) of the wasp I was referring to in my comments under the Ampulex ferruginea. It shows very different integumental coloration from the Ampulex ferruginea. I captured it lugging a Parcoblatta cockroach up a recently dead Shagbark Hickory.

Ampulex
Typo.

Oops. It's fixed.

I checked out your comments on the other one
(below), and moved this image to the A. canaliculata guide page. I have also created a page for A. ferruginea and moved the other one to it. Your reasoning looks good to me, but I expect Eric will have a comment to make, if not. He should be subscribed to the other one so he'll see the discussion there.

I also cropped this image to show more detail. Even though it's not a good shot, it serves to illustrate your point, so I don't think you should frass it until we get more images of one or both species.
