Hairy Rove Beetle, Creophilus maxillosus, preying upon adult fly - Creophilus maxillosus

Hairy Rove Beetle, Creophilus maxillosus, preying upon adult fly - Creophilus maxillosus
Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA
August 23, 2007
Wish I had a better quality picture for you (I did some post-processing to brighten it), but I wanted to provide this as evidence that Creophilus maxillosus will also hunt adult flies, not just maggots. This one was prowling around horse manure. You can see its mandible clearly embedded in the fly's thorax.
