Tomoceridae Schäffer 1896
Numbers
16 spp. in 6 genera in our area(1) (all in Tomocerinae: Tomocerini); ~160 spp. (a half are Tomocerus) in 15 genera of 2 subfamilies worldwide (the other subfam. restricted to so. hemisphere)(2)
Identification
Has elongate antennal segments as compared to Entomobryidae which are evenly sized
Range
much of the world except the Afrotropics, sw. Asia, and most of S. America; throughout NA(2)
Remarks
a representative of the superfamily Tomoceroidea that also includes the widespread Oncopoduridae, with 2 genera (both in our area)(2) --none in the guide yet
