Red-spotted Purple? - Limenitis arthemis

Red-spotted Purple? - Limenitis arthemis
Springfield, Virginia, USA
August 24, 2004
This butterfly resembles some of the Red-spotted Purples already posted in the guide, and I was wondering if anyone can confirm it. I really love the blue-green color of the wings.

Yes, RSP
Yes, that's an RSP, must be very fresh. Nice photo.

Thanks, Patrick
Thanks for the confirmation. I almost never see large butterflies land in my garden. This one was apparently very thirsty and sat quite still, drinking from some wet rocks. A perfect photo opportunity.
