Molting Springtail - Entomobrya atrocincta - female

Molting Springtail - Entomobrya atrocincta - Female
Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA
February 22, 2012
Size: ~2.5mm
A few days ago I found a pair of E. atrocincta springtails under a log. I took a few photos and then started to move on. But then I saw the female lean forward and tuck her head underneath her abdomen. She pushed forward and literally jumped out of her skin! She spent a few minutes working her way completely free, then a few more stretching her legs and antennae.

Here's a video of the process.
