Any information on this guy would be appreciated, what makes it a good find? I actually haven't collected many Histerids and I'm unfamiliar with anything past family.

Thinking Phelister vernus at this point, but do need a ventral shot and maybe another dorsal with the light more evenly dispersed so I can see the elytral striae better.

hmm... what precludes it from being, say, an Epierus?

Nada at this point. The pronotal punctation, while not ideally illuminated, screams P. vernus to me. That's just from my experience. I'm not familiar with all the Phelister, so a second opinion should be sought if this does turn out to be Phelister. Ventral shot would nail genus.

I realized this shot was a bit ambiguous with regard to the striae once I got it up on my monitor but it's all I had. I will have another photo session with this guy. With my limited photo capabilities these shiny bastards are difficult to photograph but I'll see what I can do.
