Mayfly - Baetisca - male

Mayfly - Baetisca - Male
Edmundston, Madawaska County, New Brunswick, Canada
July 1, 2011
What genus / species is it?

Moved from Mayflies.

uebercool!! must be Baetisca obesa male subimago

Hi Vassili,

Why must it be Baetisca obesa? I don't mean to suggest that it is isn't, as I really don't know which species it is. Even though unaware of a previous B. obesa record in NB, only B. laurentina, I suspect the province may be seriously under-reported, as the adjoining state of ME has records of B. berneri, B. carolina, B. lacustris, B. laurentina, B. obesa, and B. rubescens. Were you just commenting about its stout appearance, or did you spot some character which allowed you to eliminate the other potential Baetisca species candidates? If so, please share it with me. Otherwise, I will place this great and quite rare photo in the guide at genus level.

how embarrassing indeed...
my bad, guys!! this is what happened: i saw this monstrosity that didn't look remotely like anything i ever saw >> immediately thought of Baetisca >> decided to check my hypothesis >> found no photos of alates on BG >> searched the web for images >> found one on a trusted site >> mouse-dragged the name into the Subject box: the epithet got caught along with the generic name...
i wouldn't dream placing species names on photos in taxa i'm but tangentially familiar with. sorry about that mishap, colleagues.

Yeah, thought it might be something like that. It's virtually impossible to use the computer without messing up on occasion. My favorite trick is to accidentally hit the send button before I've finished composing an email. Best, Roger.

Thanks both of you for the id

'hit the send button...'
that, or else archive the finished draft instead of hitting the send button! and keep wondering why is my correspondent so rudely silent --while s/he is thinking exactly the same about me!
thanks for your understanding, Roger --and for confirming the genus ID of this marvelous beast!
