Day 137: one of the last two adults - Siphanta acuta Alameda County, California, USA March 2, 2012
The remaining two nymphs molted this afternoon. The adults measured 8.8 and 9.9 mm from "nose" to upper wingtip. The smaller one is shown, with its exuviae just behind it. That wing looks slightly crumpled, a bit short of full expansion. These two specimens stayed on Pittosporum leaves throughout the fifth-instar period.
Among the 14 hatchlings, mortality in early instars was high, all from unknown causes. Only 3 reached adulthood. However, there were no deaths after the third instar.
