Not sure where this extraneous comment came from, and can't seem to delete it.

Coryphium nigrum
. The slightly pale spot on the elytra, plus the location, made me suspicious about the
Coryphium
ID. I checked specimens, and indeed, it's one of the
Ephelinus
species, probably
notatus
, which Campbell said has the pale spot near the middle of the elytron instead of in the apical fourth and is occasionally unicolorous.
Ephelinus
has the widest point of the pronotum a little farther forward and the elytra longer than in
Coryphium
. As far as I know (I've seen additional specimens since Campbell's revision),
Coryphium nigrum
occurs only in the Northeast (NH and NY).
Nice photos!

Thanks Margaret for the corre
Thanks Margaret for the correction, I guess the other two photos from Scott's earlier posting also represent Ephelinus? They are also from VA. I was trying to key out the photos using Am. Beetles since representative specimens of this tribe were pretty much absent at Guelph, guess I went the wrong way somewhere. Anyways, good to have you on the Omaliinae - they aren't my strong point ;)
