Skarab Beetle - Buprestis aurulenta

Skarab Beetle - Buprestis aurulenta
Shoreline, King County, Washington, USA
July 7, 2009
Size: 1.5 inches? Big for a bug
I landed on my boat, in my yard in shoreline, wa. (North Seattle.) It was in the warm months, maybe summer, maybe spring.

If you're not certain whether it was spring or summer,
how did you settle on the date July 7?

Buprestis aurulenta Thank
Buprestis aurulenta
Thank you, yes BC is a few hours away, this is very interesting, and yes it was a beautiful bug. I never knew such a bug lived near me. Seemingly rare, I hope more pop up, unless of course, they start boring into my wooden house, then I will be interested in knocking them out with a shot of brakekleen, to immobilize them, and then photograph them more closely and at my leisure.

im not a beetle person
but i think it has to be a woodboring beetle Golden Buprestid (Buprestis aurulenta)
like this one found fairly near you..

seconded, B. aurulenta
common along the Pacific; the antenna immediately rules scarabs out
