Sawfly - Dolerus unicolor - female

Sawfly - Dolerus unicolor - Female
Radford, Virginia, USA
March 8, 2012
I'd like an ID, please. I used some fill light to better show details of its wings. In the field, it had an bluish iridescent color.

confused...
the submission is titled 'Sawfly', then you ask 'Is this a beetle?'

Moved from ID Request.

Sorry,
I didn't mean to cause confusion! I changed the title after I found out it was a sawfly.

why then didn't you delete the beetle question?
would be a sensible thing to do

Good idea!
Will do!

Tenthredinidae, Dolerinae
Dolerus unicolor (Beauvois), female. One of the earliest sawflies to appear.

Thanks,
Dave, I appreciate all that info!

Sawfly

Thanks,
Brad, I was obviously way off base!
