While not precluding any other species, Grote's Pinion - Hodges #9915 has been seen in NJ during March

 
L. grotei
I have specimens of L. unimoda dated 14 March and 22 March from eastern Pennsylvania, where it is one of the most common "gray Lithophanes", so I would imagine it also occurs in March in New Jersey. I could see this maybe being a worn out grotei, but in general grotei looks more mottled than this, while unimoda is more plain and smooth gray. That being said, quite a bit of the wings are out of focus on this moth, which could be making it look less mottled than it really is, so I wouldn't want to put a name on it for certain...

Pinion
Pinions look more like typical darts ... at least to me, they do
