insect - Amblycorypha
Blue Ridge Parkway, mp 229: US 21 Crossover., North Carolina, USA
May 2, 2010
Insect on Primrose-leaved Violet, Viola primulifolia; some consider this a hybrid while others suggest it is a species and it may be both: Viola ×primulifolia, Viola lanceolata × macloskeyi; There were many plants in a flat low moist open area near the parkway on the "east" side of the road. Now of the other parent plants were nearby if this is of hybrid origin. Blue Ridge Parkway, mp 229: US 21 Crossover. West 7 mi. to Sparta, NC., 17 miles to Independence, VA. East 4 Mi. to Roaring Gap, NC; North Carolina;

a nymph in genus Amblycorypha
I'm not sure which species, but that identification may come later.

Actually habitat and food plant information can be useful, but the name of the plant is usually enough. Indeed many Orthopterans are not very picky, but some are exceptionally so. Katydids in this subfamily usually do not seem very picky (but little is actually known about preferences of most species), but many of them do have a particular fondness for flowers when they are available.

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

re: remarks
see comment at(1)
the plant info can be also omitted, as most orthopterans are not closely associated with specific plant species
