Spider beetle - Ptinus fur - Male
Framingham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA

Size: less than 3mm
Was really surprised to see this tiny beetle at my moth light last night. I thought it was a longhorn, but Eric Eaton identified it as a spider beetle. I believe the markings further id it as Ptinus fur. Earliest record for this species in my state on bugguide, but then maybe part of it is that I was out looking because it was so warm :-).

might be fur, but 'markings' do not provide grounds for sp. ID
will gladly move back once the ID has been confirmed by an expert based on examination of the specimen

I based the id on the comment on this photo:

"The two crests of yellow hairs on the pronotum are distinctive for species."

Am I misunderstanding this description? I see crests on my photo, maybe there are different kinds?
