Probably Podabrus macer (LeConte)
Pronotal shape and color seem to match what is depicted in Hatch. Check out MCZ as well... Similar to P. scaber but has a more finely punctured and narrower pronotum and body size is smaller (7.5-8 mm) compared to P. scaber (to 12.5 mm). This species was previously recorded in south OR by Hatch and can likely be found in neighboring CA. However I'm not sure what other similar spp. are found in CA as Hatch's treatment focuses on PNW spp.

Thanks, Tim and Vasili!
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. But rest assured, when I get online, Bugguide are the first e-mails that I look at!
I will get back to you with a size estimate since it seems that it may be useful for this specimen. I am almost sure that it is in the 7-8 mm range, however, I will double check since it is sort of an unusual shape being so narrow.
