Cantharis sp. - Cantharis rufa

Cantharis sp. - Cantharis rufa
St-Malo, Québec County, Quebec, Canada
March 23, 2012
Size: 12mm
I am perplexed about this cantharis. The size, the partern for the tibia and the femora, head reddish...but no dark central mark on the vertex (C. livida)

But C. rufa is very variable in both coloration and form...The Apex of the last visible abdominal sternite is not a easy character for a identification confirmation and I have not other specimen for a comparision of the last sternite.

So What do you think? Thanks a lot. - RSB

Might be something else
I saw one of these about a week ago. Looking it up in a book, I ID'd it and wrote down the name. I don't have that with me now, but I'll try to find it. From memory, the name might have been a bit different from what you have listed.
