Glowworm Beetle - Phengodes fusciceps - male

Glowworm Beetle - Phengodes fusciceps - Male
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
March 23, 2012
Size: 22-24mm
What a magnificent creature ... shame I see only once a year. I "pulled the trigger" just the moment he flared for take off ... one of those golden moments

How did you come up with this
How did you come up with this ID? I see a lot of these here in west TN but since there are several species of Phengodes without pages on BG and the ones that are pictured look very similar, I've been afraid to put a species name on mine. Judging by the number of images at the Genus level, I'm not the only one.

Dark bands
Based on Mike Quinn's specimens. Plus, after nearly four years, Vassili would have moved, as he has others

You mean you won't have these for us
at the Bug Swarm??!!
