ant - Manica invidia

ant - Manica invidia
Yuba Pass, Sierra County, California, USA
June 26, 2006
Found in the dry soil near a wet meadow.

Moved
Matches well with Myrmecos, right down to the black face, and the yellow-tipped antennae.

Manica sp. - worker (Myrmicinae)
Closely related to Myrmica, but lacking propodeal spines. Manica species are also larger, on average, than Myrmica ants. Various species are restricted to the West, and most live in the mountains.

Thanks Richard
It was larger than most of the Myrmica ants I've seen, and it was at an elevation over 7,000 feet.
