Lady Beetle Pupa - Anatis rathvoni

Lady Beetle Pupa - Anatis rathvoni
Sierra City, Sierra County, California, USA
June 26, 2006

With you're identification of this pupa, I just need to find a larva now to complete the cycle (except for the eggs). I'll have to do another west coast trip though.

Anatis rathvoni
Shape, color, and pattern are typical of Anatis pupae. In California, it must be A. rathvoni.

In Anatis pupae, the markings on the area that covers the elytra are similar to the actual elytral markings of the adult. The fact that this one didn't have a scutellar spot, unlike both East Coast species of Anatis, clued me in to your California visit before I looked at the location data!
