Emerald Moth with red anterior wing edge - Dichordophora phoenix

Emerald Moth with red anterior wing edge - Dichordophora phoenix
San Pedro River Valley, SE of San Manuel, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
February 16, 2012
Medium sized Emerald Moth, not a very good photo (and the only one I have of it), but I thought it was unusual in having a red & white anterior wing edge and red parts on the body - seemed somewhat close to Nemoria zelotes, but still with significant differences comparing images. Comes to light; Sonoran Desert area, elev. 2800 feet

Thank you, John

Dichordophora phoenix - Hodges #7057 is possible
I wish you had a more dorsal view. The red spot just behind the head is wear.
The costa looks similar to Dichordophora phoenix

Yes, this also looks similar
Sorry, I don't have any more photos of this moth. Hopefully next time. Thanks as always.

Hard to say ...
Could be Nemoria caerulescens, but hard to say, with most of the fringe gone and without seeing the abdomen. Check out this key for Arizona emeralds.

Thanks - the key is very usef
Thanks - the key is very useful! I think it is a Nemoria caerulescens, because when zooming in on the photo, there did not appear to be any red on the terminal fringe - only on the costal fringes, and the abdomen was green with spots of red and white showing through.

Dichordophora phoenix
This is definitely not Nemoria caerulescens but seems almost certain to be Dichordophora phoenix. You can see images of both on our website devoted to North American Geometrine moths: http://ourfcs.friendscentral.org/moths/
