black beetle - Scarites subterraneus

black beetle - Scarites subterraneus
West Alexander, Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA
March 28, 2012
Size: 1.5cm
this was hilarious~I picked up a large piece of lumber, and saw this beetle scurry under the earth,so I "dug" it up and collected it in a petrie dish for photographs, it never moved! it played dead? like a opossum...I moved it ever way to get every angle...put it back where I found it, and it scurried under the earth...too funny
