Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
August 25, 2004
Found this spider with its prey, not a clear shot but the colors may help with any ID. Thanks.

This is not
purpuratus. Males only have red scales in Florida. Females are gray and black. It is probably borealis.

Male
of the purpuratus. The female is much different. Uniformly light grey with speckled abdomen. A large spider up to 18mm. Have not seen one in years. Absence from local habitat suggests decline in this species.

P. purpuratus ?
This one seems like it might more likely be P. purpuratus, GB Edwards plate 58
