Syrphid fly - Dioprosopa clavata

Syrphid fly - Dioprosopa clavata
Sarasota, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
April 2, 2012
Size: Approx. 1.5 cm
The eyes make me think it's a fly. It eclosed from a pupa on a pea plant where ants tended aphids.

Update later - Here is a larva that was on the same plant in this thumb:

Thanks, Ken!

You're right, Ken.
.

I should have mentioned
that of course there were also syrphid larvae on the pea plant, so now it fits. I'll try to get a larva photo up from this plant that same day. Might not be till Thursday.

I added the photo of nearby larva.
See the thumbnail in description above.
