I have no idea what this species might be -- it is not C. obtusa, because the lower half of the head is not black; and it's not C. xanthocephala, the other common species in the southern states, because its color pattern is too bold. Nor do I know any species with a black spot on the scutellum.

Two questions: (1) what plant was it on? (2) can you collect adults for study?

Thanks for the ID help. I'm not sure what plant it might be. I remember exactly where I found her, so next time I'm near there I'll look again. Are you wanting one mailed to you?
