locality data available?
nice pix

locality data is uncertain...
... the type of paper point used suggests either coastal San Diego County - early 1980's; or Lassen County - early 1990's, where I now live. The date collected was not recorded for this specimen.

Cardiophorus sp.
Unfortunately, while working on the Beetles of the Pacific NW, Lanchester described a bunch of (possibly invalid) species. The genus out west is somewhat of a mess right now, and until it's cleared up even maculated specimens like this will be hard to place.

Cardiophorus fenestratus is common in the NW, but because of Lanchaster's descriptions cannot be sure...

Hume Douglas may be able to narrow it down more. I will alert him...

Cardiophorus sp. near C. fenestratus LeC.
It might be possible to identify it to species with an additional photo of the aedeagus (assuming it is a male).
