Ground-nesting ant - Camponotus ocreatus - female

Ground-nesting ant - Camponotus ocreatus - Female
North Main Divide road, Orange County, California, USA
April 5, 2012
Queen?

Identification
This is not C. ocreatus, looks most similar to the very abundant C. vicinus in the area, but there isn't enough morphological features to take this to the species level so leave it at Tanaemyrmex (subgenus).

Moved
Moved from Ants.

Yes
Or, more accurately, a reproductive female or "alate", that is a future queen. A worker of the same species, i.e. Camponotus ocreatus, can be seen to the left, together with several Males (the small black winged individuals).
