Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Lorita Busck, 1939 (1)
Explanation of Names
Generic epithet in honor of Lora Aborn, wife of Harry Julius Busck, August's nephew. Busck also named the type species, Lorita abornana, for his nephew's wife "the young, talented musician, Lora Aborn, who endeavors with success to put the scintillating colors and flight of Lepidoptera into her compositions." Further, he named a variety of the species Lorita abornana chakta for Lora's daughter, Chatka Busck Ruggiero. The species and subspecies are now junior synonyms of Lorita scarificata (Meyrick, 1917). (1), (2) The Busck family relationships were confirmed with August's grand niece, Chatka.
Range
Southern Nearctic and Neotropic distribution. (2)
