Yellow butterfly - Papilio glaucus - male

Yellow butterfly - Papilio glaucus - Male
Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA
March 13, 2011

sometimes early spring individuals of Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
have very narrow black markings (like this one), and may also be very small. It makes them look a a fair amount like Canadian Tigers, but in Jefferson County Alabama I think the only Tiger Swallowtail you are going to find will be Easterns. This one is a male.

Moved from ID Request.

Looks like
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) or Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio appalachiensis). Do you have a shot of the underside of the wings?

..........Eastern...............Appalachian......
