Camouflaged Looper - Synchlora frondaria

Camouflaged Looper - Synchlora frondaria
Sarasota, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
March 27, 2012
Size: Approx. 1.5 cm
Found this looper by spotting the vigorous shaking on the head of a Spanish Needle flower. Not sure why it was shaking. It was in the same flower bed as the one I found last year on Plumbago. The caterpillar busily ate the Spanish Needle flower petals for a couple of days before pupating, although when I first found it, all of the flower petals on its back were brown.
